Artist Biography
Formed in 2009 in Toronto, Canada, Zeds Dead consists of producers and DJs Dylan “DC” Mamid and Zachary “Hooks” Rapp-Rovan. The duo first met through a shared passion for hip-hop and graffiti, originally producing under the name "Mass Productions" before pivoting to the electronic sound that would define a generation.
Their name—a reference to a line from Quentin Tarantino’s Pulp Fiction ("Zeds dead, baby, Zeds dead")—perfectly encapsulates their cinematic, gritty, and often dark musical style. They exploded onto the scene during the golden era of dubstep but quickly distinguished themselves by refusing to be pigeonholed. Their catalog spans dubstep, house, drum & bass, garage, and hip-hop.
In 2016, they released their debut album, Northern Lights, featuring collaborations with rivers Cuomo (Weezer), Pusha T, and Diplo. That same year, they launched Deadbeats, a record label that has become a tastemaker powerhouse in the bass music scene, launching the careers of countless artists.
With hundreds of millions of streams, JUNO Award nominations, and sold-out tours worldwide (including their annual "DeadRocks" pilgrimage), Zeds Dead remains at the forefront of electronic music innovation.
